Central Asia 4-stan tour is a trip around Tajikistan - Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan during 14 days, 2 weeks exploring the Central Asia natural and historical places. 

Welcome to the ancient cities of the Great Silk Road with medieval complexes of Tamerlane Empire age, blue-domed mosques, minarets and mausoleums, amazing azure lakes Iskanderkul and Marguzor in Fann mountains. 

Excursion
1

Flight to Dushanbe.

Arrival in Dushanbe International Airport ( ETA 08:00).

Migration formalities usually take 20 min to 60 min: visa/passport control and baggage claim. 

Come out of the terminal and meet the driver and guide holding a sign “ANUR TOUR” or with your name on it.

Transfer to the hotel to drop off the bags. Standard check-in (14:00).

Start Dushanbe sightseeing tour visiting:

- Tajik National Museum of Antiquities with the biggest Buddha in Nirvana.

The Museum consists of 22 exhibition halls with departments of nature, antiquity and the Middle Ages, modern history, fine and applied arts.

- Tajik flagpole-one of  the World tallest flagpoles (165-meter flagpole);

- Main square of Dushanbe. The Monument of Ismoili Somoni-the forefather of Tajik Nation located on the main square. A 40-meter-high monument built to the memory of Ismaili Saman-Khuda, founder of the Samanid dynasty;

- Mehrgon Bazaar - one of the biggest markets of Dushanbe;

- Gissar Fortress- the remains of the Bukhara Emirate Beck’s palace. Its thick walls once guarded a pool, garden, and palace, while the fortress itself opposed a noisy market and caravanserai.The place was famous for its center of commerce during the Silk Road. You will also be able to visit the Old Medressa (Madrasai Kuhna) of the 16-17th century with a museum inside, the new Madrassa of the 17-18th  century as well as Caravan Saray.

09:00 Transfer to Penjikent via Iskanderkul lake over Anzob pass (2900 m) and Anzob tunnel, Varzob gorge en-route enjoying the stunning nature scenery of green, sometimes barren rocks rushing mountain streams and steep rock faces.

- Iskanderkul lake, a real pearl of Fan mountains located at an altitude of 2 100 meters above sea level. There are beautiful legends, interesting stories about Alexander the Great. 
Explore surroundings: visiting Snake Lake (Ko'li Mor) that is famous for its clear waters. Walk along the lake. Visit waterfall "Fan Niagara" (height 38 meters) situated 800 m below the Iskandar river where one can take panoramic pictures.
Lunch in Iskaderkul.
Continue to Penjikent

08:00 Start an excursion to Seven lakes.

Transfer to   Marguzor, the famous seven lakes - seven wonderful water mirrors full of mountain riverside drops. Each lake looks different whenever the sun changes its position. Colors may vary from deep blue to indie color ripple. Most of them are cold to swim even in summer. These lakes belong to Fann Mountains system.

On the western edge of the Fan Mountains in the valley of the river Shing there are seven lakes, six of them are dammed origin, except the lake Hazorchashma. Lakes are called Marguzor,  but each of the  lakes  has  its  own  name: 

1. Nezhigon  (other  references  Mizhgon), 

2. Soybean;

3. Gushor;

4. Nofin;

5. Hurdak;  

6. Marguzor;  

7. Hazorchashma

Transfer to BP Jartepa en-route visiting: 

-The Sarazm Important Bird Area (UNESCO World Heritage) lies downstream of the city on the tugay-vegetated floodplain of the river.

Lunch at the local café or in a guesthouse in Penjikent.

16:00 Afternoon border crossing BP Jartepa to Uzbekistan (takes about 30 min-1 hr), meet the driver at Uzbekistan side of the border.

Transfer to Samarkand.  

Arrival in the hotel in Samarkand.

09:00 Meet the guide in the lobby.

Start sightseeing program in Samarkand (6 hours):

- Gur Emir Mausoleum – a burial vault of Timur the Great and his descendants is decorated with gold ornaments and is considered as one of the most significant sights of the world;

- Continue to the famous Registan Square – the heart of Samarkand and a real masterpiece of Central Asian medieval architecture, the ensemble of grandiose buildings: Ulugbek Madrassa, Madrassa Sherdor, and Madrassa Tilla Kori; 

- Bibi Khanim Mosque – the biggest medieval building in the city was one of the most magnificent mosques in the Islamic world in 15th Century

- Shahi Zinda Necropolis – unique complex of Mausoleums formed by standing on both sides of the cenotaph (an imaginary grave) of the Muslim saint Abbas ibn- Kussam; 

- Ulugbek’s Observatory – the finest astronomical centers in the medieval world was built by order of Ulugbek, an outstanding scholar and astronomer;

- Samarkand bazaar – Siyab.

09:00 Transfer to Bukhara (270 km), en-route visiting famous Gijduvan pottery workshop where visitors are welcome for a tour around the workshop and observe the process of ceramic making and painting.

The owners demonstrate the stages of making ceramics from turning the potter’s wheel to making paints from natural ingredients, decorating the ceramics in the distinctive style, drying and firing.  Take a tour around the museum-hall of ceramic masterpieces with a unique collection of the ceramic items of Gijduvan and other regions of Uzbekistan.

Arrival in Bukhara. Transfer to the hotel, check-in.

09:00 Meet your guide in the hotel's lobby. Head over to the old part of Bukhara and start your walking excursion:

Start WALKING sightseeing program in Bukhara (5-6 hours):

- Ensemble Lyabi Hauz (Nadir Divanbegi Madrassa, Khanaka, Kukeldash Madrassa and the monument of Khodja Nasreddin);

- Magoki Attari Mosque is one of the oldest mosques survived in Bukhara from the time before the Mongolian invasion;

- Abdullakhan’s Tim with numerous handicraft shops of souvenirs, ceramics, national clothes and carpets;

- Caravanserai Sayfuddin (the Center of Handicraft Development of Bukhara);

- There are three trading domes or so-called covered bazaars Toki Sarrofon, Toki Telpak Furushon and Toki Zargaron preserved from the XVI century and these bazaars were the centers for trade of silk, jewelry and even for money exchange. Today as well, one can enjoy and purchase different souvenirs of a wide range, from small souvenir magnets to the famous Bukhara carpets;

- Visit Ulughbek and Abdulazizkhan Madrassas or so called Kosh (pare) madrassas opposite each other with distinctive style of facade ornamental decoration;

- Poi Kalon Square with Kalon Minaret and Mosque, Mir Arab Madrassa – the heart of Bukhara, a monumental complex impresses the imagination of every visitor;

- Ark Fortress – the oldest citadel dating back to I century BC where one can feel the history of the great fortress covered in beautiful legends and myths.

- Visit to Samanids mausoleum (IX century), a monument of early medieval architecture.

Transfer to Uzbek- Turkmen border post "Olot-Farab".

Border passing formalities (passport and visa control might take 1 to 2 hrs depending on the customs formalities). 

Meeting with guide and driver at Turkmenistan side of the border.

Transfer to Mary.

En route visit to the Ancient Merv (UNESCO).  Discover historical park with:

- Sultan Sanjar Mausoleum;

- Mohammed bin Said Mausoleum, medieval castles – “Kesk” fortresses (6-7 centuries) and others.

Return to Mary.

Visit the History Museum of the Merv region.

19:20 Evening flight to Ashgabat.

20:00 Arrival in Ashgabat.

09:00 Start Ashgabat city tour with visiting:

- Ertogrul Gazy Mosque  with four minarets reminding the Blu Mosque of Istanbul was built in honor Ertogrul the father of the Osman I, the founder of Ottoman Empire,

- Independence Park with Monument of Independence (it's a 118 m column that is considered the highest building in the country);

- Neutrality Arch - a unique composition that rotates slowly after the sun;

- National Museum, where you can see more than 166 unique expositions from Ancient Merv and Nissa. 

- Turkmenbashi Mosque-Mausoleum. It is considered the biggest in Central Asia (10 thousands of people). There are a beautiful garden and fountains near the mosque.

- Ancient Nissa (18km from Ashgabad) UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the ruins of the ancient city (the date of foundation of I millennium BC - I millennium BC).

- In the afternoon transfer to Darvaza crater and change from the asphalt road to the Karakum desert track, continue 10 km deep inside.

In 1971 geologists accidentally found an underground cavern filled with natural gas. To avoid poisonous gas discharge, it was decided to burn the gas. Geologists hoped the fire would go out in a few days but it has been burning ever since. Locals have named the cavern The Gate - Darvaza. The views are impressive, especially in sunset and night when the mild sunlight and burning crater evoke incredible and ambiguous feelings.

Start sightseeing tour with visiting

- the founder mausoleum of Sufi sects "Kubra" Nadzhimetdin Kubra (XII-XIII C);

- mausoleum of Mongolian princess Torebeg-Hanym ; minaret Mamun (X-XI);

- minaret Kutlug-Timur (XII-XIV c, the highest minaret in Central Asia);

- Mausoleum Kyrkmolla (II in BC - III A.D.);

- Mausoleum Arslan II (the oldest building in the city - date of its bookmark is roughly estimated by XI century).

Transfer to Turkmen – Uzbek Border post Dashoguz/ Shavat.

Pass the border. Border passing formalities (passport and visa control might take 1 to 2 hrs depending on the customs formalities). Meet the driver at Uzbek side of the border. 

Transfer to the hotel.

Start walking excursion in the historical part of KhivaIchan- Kala (translated as “Inner town”). Ichan- Kala - the largest Museum in the open air in Central Asia consisting of:

- Ata-Darvaza, Kunya - Ark;

- Madrassah of Muhammad Rahim Khan;

- Madrassah of Muhammed Aminhan;

- Kalta Minor, the Palace of the Allakulihan Khan of Khiva;

- Tash Hauli, where the harem of 40 concubines was;

- Caravanserai and Tim Allakulihan;

- Pahlavan Mahmud Gates, Mausoleum of Seyd Allaudin,

- Pahlavan Mahmud Mausoleum - one of the best works of Khivian architecture - mausoleum of Pahlavan Mahmud - done in the tradition of Khorezm architecture of XVIII-XIX centuries  and Pahlavan Mahmud Gates,

- Islam-Khoja Madrassah - was built in 1908 by Islam-Hoja of the Prime Minister of Khan. The minaret is a symbol of the country, is an early example of the architecture of the XIV century.

- Mosque and Jami Minaret.

Start sightseeing tour of Tashkent (5-6 hrs) visiting old and new parts of the city:

- Amir Timur Square, founded in 1882 and originally called Konstantinovsky Square, was renamed on August 31, 1994 after of the Amir Timur to honor the cultural and historical contribution of the great conqueror.
Around the Square there is the Museum of History of Timurids, Uzbekistan hotel, Forum Palace and famous Tashkent striking clock.

- Tashkent striking clock, one of major symbols of Tashkent.

- Theater Square with the Opera House: State Academic Theater of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi built in 1947 is one of the best opera theater of the world performs both classical and national repertoires. 

- Independence Square, the main square of Uzbekistan reflects the past, present and future of the country. There are fountains standing for life energy of Uzbek people, the Cabinet and the Senate, the “Eternal flame" in honor of soldiers who died during the Second World War.
- Earthquake Memorial, the composition is devoted to the tragic date of earthquake in Tashkent on April 26, 1966, and is erected in the approximate place of earthquake epicenter. Residents still come to the monument to honor those people who took a part in the reconstruction of Tashkent;

- Khast Imam Square – a religious center of the city consisting of the Barakkhan madrasah; Kaffal Shashi Mausoleum and the library of Islamic Literature with the Holy Koran Book of the VII century (original Quran Othman). Khast Imam is one of the most significant spiritual centers in Central Asia and attracts the pilgrims and visitors all over the world.

- Chorsu bazaar – the ancient bazaar of Tashkent. “Chorsu” means “four waters”, symbolically meaning the conjunction of four major parts of old city in bazaar where people come for trades. The bazaar beautiful blue dome, built in traditional style after the Tashkent earthquake, is often depicted in postcards and international magazines and became one of the major sights of interest both for locals and guests – one can see oriental tiled bazaar from different souvenir shops with ceramics, handicraft works, carpets and jewelry, the whole pavilion full of delirious fruits to the finest textiles and colorful fabrics.

- Tashkent Metro (the first line was launched in 1977) with beautiful train stations each decorated in thematic style with traditional ornaments and special lightning.

08:00 Meet the driver at the hotel in Tashkent.

Transfer to the BP Gisht-Kuprik (30 km). Border crossing (walking) to Kazakhstan usually takes about 20 min- 40 min.

Meet the driver and guide at the Kazakhstan side of the border.

Transfer to Turkestan en-route visiting:

- The open-air museum of the ancient settlement near Otrar (14 km) - the ruins of fortified citadel, shahristan (the overview of the buildiings and houses), the entrance gates to the archeological complex (reconstructed). The place was once an important trade point with powerful governors. The fortress was occupied by Chengis Khan and almost destroyed in XIII century.

Later on the city was noted as the place where Timur the Great planning to start China campaign caught a flu and died in Otrar in cold February 1405.

- Continue to mausoleum of Arystan-Bab (XIX century), which was the spiritual mentor of Khoja Ahmed Yassavi.

Transfer to Turkestan.

09:00 Start Turkestan sightseeing tour visiting:

-  Ahmed Yassawi mausoleum (UNESCO). Complex of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi in Turkestan city is a prominent monument of medieval architecture. This wonderful complex of palaces and temples, built in the period from 1385 to 1405 on the burial place of the Sufi poet Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, who had a great authority among the Muslims of the region and made a significant influence on Islam in Central Asia. He died in 1166 (1167) and was honorably buried in a small mausoleum. The new mausoleum was built in 1398 by the order of Timur the Great.

- The memorial complex Azret-sultan besides the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi complex is sometimes called as historical and cultural reservation, includes many constructions, most significant of them are:

- Darvaza (XIX c.)- the gates;

- Medieval bathhouse (monsha);

- Mausoleum of Rabiya – Sultan Begim (daughter of the astronomer Ulugbek);

- Mausoleum of the Kazakh khan Esimkhan;

- Underground mosque Khilovat (XII-XV century);

- Shildekhan and other historical monuments;

- Visit Juma mosque built in 1878.

Start sightseeing around Almaty visiting:

- Panfilov Park. The name of the Panfilov Park comes after the heroes of Panfilov. There is a big monument in commemoration of the heroic actions made by 28 Almaty Soldiers who died in 1941 near Moscow.

- Zenkov Cathedral. Zenkov Wooden constructed Cathedral is one of the eight unique wooden buildings in the world. It is one of the few buildings to survive the 1911 earthquake, despite the fact it is built entirely of wood and constructed without nails;

- National Musical Instruments Museum. In the Museum of Musical Instruments, one can find various national musical instruments, the oldest of which is of the XVII century.

- Medeu, the World's largest speed skating rink known as Medeo. At the end of the gorge there is a ski resort Shymbulak, situated at an altitude of 2.200 m above sea level. It is one of Central Asia's top skiing spots where one can take a cable car funicular to Shymbulak Ski resort.

Transfer to Almaty International Airport.

Evening departure flight from Almaty ( ETD 22:00).
